humility

There is absolutely

nothing we can do

to earn God's favor.

That is humbling.

"So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?"

opportunities

Every missed opportunity to do good

is a missed blessing for at least two people.

Let's ask God to help us seize the day--

and every good opportunity it offers.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith."

Galatians 6:9-10 ESV

confidence

Confidence is contagious, unfortunately, so is fear.

Let's spread confidence.

"Is there any man who is fearful and fainthearted? Let him go back to his house, lest he make the heart of his fellows melt like his own."

Deuteronomy 20:8 ESV

God our strength

God, Himself, with us and in us

and all around us is our strength.

"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God...Fear not, for I am with you."

Isaiah 43:2-3, 5 ESV

eternity

Our time on earth is but a moment,

especially when compared to eternity.

Let's honor God during our moment.

"As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more.

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life."

Psalm 103:15-16, 1 John 5:13 ESV

faith and strength

Our faith will only be as strong

as we believe our God to be.

I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power.

Psalm 18:1-2, 147:5 ESV

too much faith?

It's impossible to have too much faith in God--

but it sure would be fun to try!

Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what He promised.

Romans 4:20-21 NIV

hope

Hold onto hope.

"Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant

about those who fall asleep, or grieve like the

rest of men, who have no hope."

let's meet up

We will meet again--

in the most amazing way!

"For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord."

Psalm 116:15

Many years ago,

at the funeral of my best friend's sister,

who died of cancer at the age of sixteen,

my grandma slipped me a little piece of paper.

On it she had written Psalm 116:15.

I'll never forget that verse,

or the peace it brought that day.

life and life

Jesus is our only and greatest hope.

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life.

Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,

and everyone who lives and believes in me

shall never die. Do you believe this?"

key to endurance

Today's problems are more easily endured

when we remember yesterday's provision.

And the Lord said to Moses, "How long

will this people despise me? And how long

will they not believe in me, in spite of all

the signs that I have done among them?"

don't worry

We tend to think worrying accomplishes something,

or somehow helps our situation--it doesn't.

"And which of you by being anxious can add

a single hour to his span of life?"

pride

Pride wears many disguises;

sometimes we don't even realize

when we've put one of them on.

"All of you, clothe yourselves with humility

toward one another, because,

'God opposes the proud

but gives grace to the humble.'

Humble yourselves, therefore,

that He may lift you up in due time."

on generosity

We can be generous because our God is generous.

"And my God will supply every need of yours

according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus."

be happy

Worry takes the fun out of life.

"O Lord of hosts,

blessed is the one who trusts in you!"

heaven

Heaven is better.

"But as it is, they desire a better country,

that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God

is not ashamed to be called their God,

for He has prepared for them a city."

prayer first

Let's make prayer our first response, not our last;

it is the best we can do, not the least.

"First of all, then, I urge that supplications,

prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings

be made for all people."
