One thought-One Scripture passage-One minute-Each day

One Minute With God

Imagine God draping His arm around your shoulders every morning, and then telling you one thing. What if He told you one thing, every day, that is true; one thing that could transform your outlook on life? And what if it only took Him one minute? That’s what "One Minute With God" is all about. Every verse in the Bible comes straight from the heart of God. Every passage contains God-breathed words meant to encourage His children (Romans 15:4). God promises that the time we spend in His Word will be worth our while: "As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is My word that goes out from My mouth: It will not return to Me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it" (Isaiah 55:10-11). How exciting! Let’s spend one minute with God together.

I wonder how many things
I might not have done,
had I first asked myself,
what's my motivation?

"All a man's ways seem innocent to him,
but motives are weighed by the Lord."
Proverbs 16:2 NIV

David did

Sometimes it's necessary
to remind ourselves
to do the best thing.

"Praise the Lord, O my soul;
all my inmost being,
praise His holy name.
Praise the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits."
Psalm 103:1 NIV

the Bible & race

In the Bible there are no races,
just people living in different places.

"From one man He made every nation of men,
that they should inhabit the whole earth;
and He determined the times set for them
and the exact places where they should live."
Acts 17:26 NIV

wisdom & wrinkles

May God open our eyes to the treasure
of wrinkled faces and gray hair.

"Is not wisdom found among the aged?
Does not long life bring understanding?"
Job 12:12 NIV

May our words be a treat
for those who hear them today.

"Does not the ear test words
as the tongue tastes food?"
Job 12:11 NIV

camping out

We aren't the first
to experience the fervor
false teachers stir up.

"Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
and our being gathered together to Him,
we ask you, brothers,
not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed,
either by a spirit of a spoken word,
or a letter seeming to be from us,
to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.
Let no one deceive you in any way."
2 Thessalonians 2:1-3 ESV

brought by Jesus

May God open our hearts and minds
to the wonder of this truth:
Jesus died so that we could have God.

"For Christ also suffered once for sins,
the righteous for the unrighteous,
that He might bring us to God."
1 Peter 3:18 NIV

only God knows

May the uneventfulness of May 21st
serve as a reminder
that one day, when we least expect it,
Jesus will come again.

"No one knows about that day or hour,
not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,
but only the Father."
Matthew 24:36 NIV

just look

Even a childlike understanding of stars
and galaxies and light-years
should excite us to wonder
and inspire us to worship
the God who created and sustains all things.

"To whom will you compare me?
Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One.
Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one,
and calls them each by name.
Because of His great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.
Isaiah 40:25-26 NIV

strength matters

Our victory is certain,
because our God is strong.

"He holds victory in store for the upright,
He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
for He guards the course of the just
and protects the way of His faithful ones."
Proverbs 2:7-8 NIV

something better

May God give us hearts that desire
what He is happy to give.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God,
who gives generously to all without reproach,
and it will be given him.
For wisdom is better than jewels,
and all that you may desire
cannot compare with her."
James 1:5, Proverbs 8:11 ESV

to God

Lord God, please open our eyes
that we may behold Your glory
in everything we see and do
and experience today.

"For from Him and through Him
and to Him are all things.
To Him be glory forever. Amen."
Romans 11:36 ESV

Bible power

Knowing God's Word
unleashes the power
of God's protection.

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."
Hosea 4:6 NIV

the B-I-B-L-E

Through the Bible
God gives us unlimited access
to the depths of His heart,
where wisdom dwells.

"But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God,
which God decreed before the ages for our glory."
1 Corinthians 2:7 ESV

Happy Mother's Day

Honor your parents. It's pretty important.

"You know the commandments: 'Do not murder,
do not commit adultery, do not steal,
do not give false testimony, do not defraud,
honor your father and mother.'"
Mark 10:19 NIV

God's eyes

When God watches over a person,
good things happen.

"He shall be like a tree planted
by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
For the Lord watches over
the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish."
Psalm 1:3,6 NIV

Of all the things we might do today,
loving God outranks them all.

"We implore you on Christ's behalf:
Be reconciled to God."
2 Corinthians 5:20b NIV

God's Word is the way out
of whatever prison
we get ourselves into.

"And you will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free.
Your word is truth."
John 8:32, 17:17 ESV

the letter

May we cherish the Word of God
for the love letter it really is.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly....
Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds."
Colossians 3:16, Deuteronomy 11:18 NIV

Without God's help, I'd get lost every day.

"Send forth Your light and Your truth,
let them guide me;
let them bring me to Your holy mountain,
to the place where You dwell."
Psalm 43:3 NIV

wait for it

Every time we wait,
we become better waiters--
better at believing God has a plan.

"Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord."
Psalm 27:14 NIV
